COOL BANANA
Kim Soo-hyun (金秀泫)
At Cool Banana, we embrace the quiet beauty of imperfection and the gentle warmth of handmade craft. Each piece is created by Korean ceramic artist Kim Soo-hyun, who has lived and worked in Jingdezhen, China — the historic heart of porcelain — for over a decade.
Kim’s creative philosophy blends Korean sensitivity with Jingdezhen’s deep ceramic heritage. To her, pottery is a meditative practice — a balance between clay, fire, and intention. Every piece is shaped by hand from natural mineral clay and high-fired at 1300°C, allowing the material to reveal its own character: subtle iron specks, fine crackles, and softly irregular rims that convey a sense of time and touch.
The name “Cool Banana” reflects Kim‘s playful and sincere outlook on life — meaning “Let’s start the day like this.” It expresses a spirit of curiosity, courage, and calm acceptance. Through her work, Kim invites you to slow down, feel the rhythm of handmade pottery, and rediscover warmth and stillness in the everyday.
