Founded in 2021 in Jingdezhen, September Studio is led by ceramic artist Jiuyue Zhang. Her practice centers on high-fire color-glaze painting — a technique that applies colored glazes directly onto the ceramic body before firing. During the intense heat of the kiln, various metal oxides bloom into unpredictable hues and textures. The thickness of the glaze, the way layers overlap, and even the placement within the kiln all shape the final image, infusing each piece with a sense of spontaneity and irresistible charm.

It is precisely this element of unpredictability that gives color-glaze ceramic paintings their unique soul. Each work becomes a vessel for warm wishes, a record that transcends time, transforming the artwork into something vivid and alive.

September’s themes draw from familiar objects in everyday life — sweaters, cakes, fruit plates, flowers — using these gentle motifs to construct scenes filled with warmth. Through the alchemy of glaze and fire, she captures the tenderness of daily moments on the ceramic surface, allowing beauty to emerge in quiet, textured layers.
