Sato Naomichi 佐藤尚理
Sato Naomichi is not just a potter; he is a sculptor who brings clay to life. Originally starting his artistic career as a sculptor in 2000, Sato's journey took a transformative turn in 2008 when he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany. His time spent traversing Europe—including a pilgrimage through Spain—deeply influenced his unique aesthetic.
Upon returning to Japan in 2009, he transitioned into ceramics. After years of experimentation and honing his craft, he founded his studio, "Utsuwa BONOHO," in 2012.
Sato’s work is a delightful blend of cultures and eras. His pieces often feature colorful patterns and whimsical motifs like animals and faces, evoking a sense of Pop Art while maintaining a texture that pairs perfectly with antique European cutlery. Through his pottery, Sato aims to create objects that offer a "liberation from the ordinary," bringing a spark of joy and beauty to daily life.
