Chisu 尺素

The Art of Everyday Letters in Clay - from the Artisan

In ancient times, “Chisu (尺素)” referred to a handwritten letter — a vessel for emotion and connection. To me, making ceramics is much like writing such a letter: a quiet way to share my life and thoughts through form, line, and glaze.

I work primarily with blue-and-white porcelain, exploring both traditional and contemporary motifs — from winding floral patterns and animals to scenes from everyday life. Each piece is handcrafted and high-fired at around 1200°C, ensuring both durability and functionality; all are dishwasher-safe.

My practice centers on the belief that craft and beauty should live in daily life. A vessel should serve the people first — to be used, touched, and enjoyed — and only then, through painting and form, offer a quiet sense of delight.

Each Chisu piece carries a trace of individuality — a dialogue between old traditions and new sensibilities, made to bring calm, warmth, and curiosity to your everyday rituals.
